Battlefield Fight League 18: FKP MMA Fighters take home 2 wins
September 15th saw two members of the FKP MMA fight team step into the Battlefield Fight League cage at the Vancouver Convention Centre.
Chris “Snake Eyes” Pineda (1-0) made his MMA debut at 145 lbs against a very experienced Kalen Johl, but after the fight was over you would have thought it was Chris who had the greater experience! During the first and second round, Pineda displayed superior striking with effective head movement, great foot work, and calculated strikes to break down his opponent. That set up a third-round lead left hook that dropped Johl to the canvas, after which “Snake Eyes” swarmed Johl with vicious ground-and-pound before finishing him off with a cleanly-executed rear naked choke at the 2:20 mark. A very promising debut indeed for one of FKP’s fastest-rising fighters!
“Hang Loose” Hanz Pangilinan (3-1) returned to the BFL cage after more than a year’s absence, hungry for redemption after suffering a quick knockout loss to Eli Wyse in January 2011. Facing Team Toshido’s Cleve Bentley at a catchweight of 152 pounds, Pangilinan showed what Catch Wrestling is all about by repeatedly taking Bentley down and working an aggressive ground game throughout the fight. A game Bentley made Hanz work for every second of the fight, but “Hang Loose” dominated all three rounds, earning a unanimous decision victory. Now vindicated and looking for fresh competition, the now 3-1 Pangalinan is setting his sights on the BFL featherweight division.
With BFL 18 in the books, we look forward to having FKP MMA back in action during the upcoming Battlefield card in November.
